Overseas visitors engaged in remunerated activities

The Department of Immigration is scrutinizing the planned activities of people arriving in Australia on a visitor visa or Electronic Travel Authority.

As a visitor, if you are going to be engaging in activities that would normally attract remuneration, then your visa may be cancelled in immigration clearance and you may be refused entry to Australia.

If you are in Australia and are caught working, your visa may be cancelled. This may lead to you being excluded from Australia for 3 years.

There have been recent cases of this impacting planned equestrian events with participants being denied entry to Australia.

If you are the organizer or participant of any equestrian event, clinic or equestrian associated activity where you would be receiving remuneration, it is vital to ensure that an appropriate visa is obtained.

There are a number of potential visas which may be appropriate depending on a range of factors including the nature and duration of the activities, what payments will be made and the characteristics of the participant.

You can get help with the visa process from a registered migration agent. Only registered migration agents can legally give immigration assistance in Australia.
To do this, they must be listed on the Register of Migration Agents, held by the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority.
